On July 4, 2022, the Community of Highland Park, Illinois, experienced a mass shooting during our annual Independence Day parade. Seven individuals were senselessly murdered, dozens more were injured, and countless community members were traumatized. Together Highland Park Unidos manages the donation distribution process for victims and local nonprofit organizations supporting victims’ needs.

The July 4th Highland Park Shooting Response Fund closed on October 7, 2022, and raised a total of $5.8 million and distributed 100% of those funds to victims of the mass shooting and nonprofit organizations providing mental health and other services to the community. A second fund, the July 4th Recovery Fund, has been opened by the Highland Park Community Foundation to accept donations that will be used to address continuing mental health needs and other services resulting from the shooting.
